twenty-four hours awake by Chungyen Chang

inspiration comes slowly
eyes heavy, wide and lacking sleep

wednesday morning is like a hiccup
stuck in your throat and thrown in a blender
served as a smoothie
half-melted in the food court at Fayette Mall

puffs of water vapor
unwashed by a tardy sun
my head is an installation,
floating between shoulders
disconnected from overuse

a twitching in my leg,
my center of balance disturbed
and faces faintly lit
all my ear juice careens sideways
splattered on the road
for everyone to see
