i'm beginning to hate birds by Kendall Burke

late night tremor ends in wheels running from rays.
i left my eyes in the grass; they didn't want to leak
and make a mess of inks and fibers.
darling said she'd had enough,
but enough is too objective for goodbye,
and like a well-paid suit, i made my case:
lazy lovers runaway,
while loyal lovers stay.

forgive me, darling, but you're telling lies,
are your bird friends talking?
i'd never trust a crooked beak.
your mind on drugs spits truth;
come on, darling, powder your nose
and tell me you love me.

i found your bird friends on my wires,
disrupting conversation.
one by one, i took them down;
chirp
bang
dead

(i'm sorry, darling, but you choose bad company)
