I see him as he was,
tall and strong,
a man handsome as the father
who gave him wings of wax.
I see him as he was,
laughing at our wedding feast,
shy glances when our fathers
gave their blessings
outside our chamber door.
I feel his fingers pull
pins and flowers from my hair,
hear his voice whisper Beloved,
hear him promise to return once
he helped Daedalus escape.
I dream of the Icarus I knew,
but poets build kingdoms of lies,
the might of selfish Kings
eclipsing the grief
of one heartbroken woman,
and the man becomes a foolish boy
who flew too high on wings of wax.
