What's New
flashquake publisher and editor Debi Orton was recently interviewed by the BBC for the Worldservice radio program "The Word." The topic was writing on the Internet in general, and flash literature in particular. The interview was broadcast on April 10, and will be available until April 16 at http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/the_word.shtml. There is a link to the audio on this page.
Former contributor Bruce Boston wrote to tell us that his poetry collection Shades Fantastic — including "Memory's Refrain," reprinted from Flashquake — has received the Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers Association. A complete list of the winners can be found at http://www.horror.org/news-2006stokerwinners.htm. Bruce also reports that he has a new novel, The Guardener's Tale. Cover image, details, advance praise can be found at http://hometown.aol.com/bruboston/theguardenerstale.html.
Editor Didi Wood's story "Home Again" appears in the Spring issue of Vestal Review.
Editor Vanitha Sankaran will be returning from her hiatus for our next issue. In her absence, editor Dave Shapiro did a fine job in managing our Less is More microflash contest. We received more than 500 submissions, which our editors reviewed in addition to their regular workload of regular submissions. We've listed the winners in each of the categories, and we've published all of the winners in three separate broadsheets, which are linked on the left side of the list of winners. While you're there, check out our editors' responses to the contest challenge.
Editor Mary Estrada's story "Temperance" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in December and was selected for The Best of the Net Anthology. Mary also has a story ("Retablo") in the next Per Contra.
Please take a moment to visit our May We Suggest page. We have new music and book suggestions to tell you about. And remember, if you buy from Amazon.com from any link on our site, some of your purchase will help us pay writers for their work.
Pam Casto will be back this spring with another session of her popular online Flash Fiction class. For more information, see our Online Classes section.
