Artwork Descriptions

Room Service 30"x 30" Acrylic on Canvas
Strong geometry and a spectral pallet dominated by the primaries-red, yellow and blue-make this still life anything but still. A table holds a vase of flowers, a bottle and a glass of wine and plate of fruit reduced to a calculated geometry that emphasizes motion.

Retro 24" X 24" Acrylic on Canvas
This picture of an easy chair, table with a phonograph and martini has the stylistic trademark geometry and highly saturated color of the cover piece. This time red and yellow are the dominant colors and turquoise and purple provide accents. The lamp shade, the martini and the drapes of the background supply movement.

Fruit and Furniture 24"x 24" Acrylic on Canvas
A black and white checked floor and table legs quiet the vivid colors of in this piece. A table, a chair, the painting of a guitar in the background are elements seen in much of Karen's work. The main colors in this composition are the complimentary red and green. Secondary or accent colors are purples and oranges. Large areas of basically flat color are balanced with areas of subtle texture giving the surface a very balance quality.

China Cabinet 22"x 28" Acrylic on Canvas
This piece is quieter than most of Karen's work due to the use of a soft blue in the background but remains consistent to the dominant use of primary colors. The chair and draperies are by now a familiar motif but the table usually present has been replaced with glass front china cabinet that support the still life within a still life so prevalent in this work.

Interior View 24"x 30" Acrylic on Canvas
This piece has the familiar chair, table, drapes, lamp and guitar painting. The geometry of items on the table is less fractured here. The pallet is full range and a secondary color scheme dominates with primary colored accents.

Red Bistro 30" X 30" Acrylic on Canvas
In this piece the geometry of the simplified shapes is almost mosaic like in its distribution across the canvas. The background painting and its frame show through the stylized flowers in the vase fractured into geometric shapes of similar size. The red wall forms the background for a greet chair and the floral rug on the checked floor has a similar impact to the picture frame and flowers at the top of the composition.

Moonlight and Lillies 36"x 48" Acrylic on Canvas
The objects in this piece are rendered with blended color rather than flat geometry. And there and more objects due to wider angle of view. The lamp in the background is rendered with less distortion making me think this was done earlier than some of the other pieces in this grouping.

Celebration 30"x 30" Acrylic on Canvas
In this piece the tabletop is seen from a bird's eye view while the objects on the table are seen straight on. The wall in the background sports a stripe and the lit lamp casts shadows and creates highlights on the drapes. The tabletop and the guitar in the picture on the wall are similar shapes and the varied size suggests perspective.

Apples and Martini 36"x 48" Acrylic on Canvas
Complimentary blue and yellow dominate this composition. Frequently revisited elements of table, chair, lamp, flowers, drinks, fruit and drapes dance across the canvas and the floor lamp in the background is again lit, spilling a pool of light on the striped wall.
