"The subtext in this piece is nicely woven with vivid imagery and a rhythm that rolls off the tongue. I wanted to devour this poem, as food, as thought."

Suey

The new "American as Apple Pie" — is stir fry...
When this melting pot gets hot
Add anything you can chop and skin
onions, religions, opinions...
dice differences in half
sizzle away ethnic and cultural preservatives
until the aroma of buttery multiculturalassimilation
entices and blinds you
don't choke on a steaming piece of...
marinade your chopped up individuality
in a syrupy patriotic sauce —
flavor with chunks of cowboy myths and garnish
with a dash of lime extract and apathy...
nothing will ever be what it was — and it's good
because you have no idea
what it is.
The new "American as Apple Pie" — is stir fry...
Add anything you can chop and skin
prepare for a mysterious treat
you'll never know if what you eat
once was the soul of a man...
nothing will ever be what it was — and it's good
because you have no idea
what it is.
