These Waves of Girls, the Electronic Literature Organization's 2001 Fiction Award Winner, bills itself as a "hypermedia novella." We think it just might be the model for the future of literature. From the ELO site:

It includes Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, the Columbia Encyclopedia, the American Heritage Dictionary and too many other resources to list here. And it's named after Nathaniel Hawthorne's Scrivener — what else could you want!
