Easter

  Easter by Stephen Payne

Rise early and before the day begins
go traipsing, bleary eyed, around the house,
putting aside the quarrels of last night
and remembering similar mornings
that their discoveries might help you now
as you search for small signs of a new life.
Try to follow your father's unseen course,
feeling with your gaze along the picture
rails and skirting boards where he may have paused
to leave a sweet bead of resurrection.
