Winter 2003/2004

If you have news that you'd like to share with flashquake's readers, please let us know.

  • Help celebrate our Pushcart Prize nominees
flashquake is pleased to announce our 2003 Pushcart Prize nominees.

  • Start the New Year with a New Skill
Pamelyn Casto's debut Haibun Writing class was such a success that we are offering it again. The class will begin on Monday, January 12, and will run for four weeks. For more information, read the class description.

And be sure to sign up for flashquake's announcement list to be among the first to learn about new class offerings, contests, and other flash literature news.

  • Your holiday shopping can help flashquake
If someone on your list loves books about writing, please take a look at our Recommended Page. In addition to writing books the flashquake staff recommends, you can use the general link to Amazon.com to order a wide range of CDs, DVDs, videos, and other gifts. And by using our links, Amazon will share their profits with us at no extra cost to you! What a deal!

  • What's happening with the submission guidelines?
flashquake is in the process of converting from the current e-mail submission procedure to a new online submission system. We had hoped to have the new system ready for use by the opening of the Spring reading period on December 1, but could not make that deadline. The e-mail submission system will remain for one more reading period.

The new system will allow potential contributors to establish an account and submit their work online, and will allow them to follow its progress through our review process.

  • New Review Process
Due to the volume of submissions flashquake has been receiving, we have modified our original review process. Each submission is reviewed by two of our editors. If one editor votes "yes," or if both editors vote "maybe," the submission will be reviewed by the other four remaining editors. If one or both editors vote "no," the submission will be rejected. This process worked very well for us in the last reading period, and we will continue to use it.
