Text Description
Little Petra
Little Petra is just a short distance outside the main Nabataean
city of Petra, now in the country of Jordan. It was a wayside stop for caravans of traders and travelers. The photo shows the entrance to what came to be called by the Romans, a triclineum. That is, an open-air but covered
restaurant with ledges carved into three sides of a room, on which diners
lounged while food was brought to them on small tables.
