NAPA VALLEY
by Kathy Briccetti

Napa Valley by Kathy Briccetti

A flock of Canada geese peck at a stubble field,
nudging slick coal crows — shadows foraging for remains —
as the valley fog bumps everything in her path.

Yesterday she pressed against my screened window,
like an uninvited visitor waiting politely on the porch.
Today she doesn't meet me on the hill,
but lays claimed by the valley.

Soon she will adjourn,
opening to expose the fertile glacial gorge,
whose raked grooves of Sienna earth cleanly divide lines of vines,
hills kissing where they meet
at their lowest point.
