About
Flashquake is an independent publication that focuses on works of flash (fiction, nonfiction, plays, haibun, short poetry and prose poetry, including translations) and art from around the world. We publish four times per year.
Flashquake was founded by Debi Orton in 2001. In January 2011, Cindy M. Bell took over Flashquake.
Flashquake aspires to no less than the publication of literary works of flash and fine art. We work hard to bring you a quality literary publication.
At Flashquake, we have a theory: Words are meant to enlighten and to inspire.
ART
Flashquake is dedicated to providing a venue for aspiring and established artists. We accept contributions of work in any “fine art” medium — painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, mixed media, clay, fiber and glass to name a few. We have no prescribed style and will consider both representational and abstract work.
WRITING
Flashquake aspires to no less than the publication of literary works of flash. We are seeking complete works that demonstrate a mastery of the English language, contain original thoughts, demonstrate imagination, and weave their magic with power. We don’t appreciate romance stories, nor work with excessive gore or violence, “goth” vampire tales, hard-core science fiction, rhyming poetry, or works of a religious nature.
INTERNATIONAL FOCUS
Flashquake has published authors and artists from around the world.
